The Bear Went Over the Mountain

Merci d’avance.

Warm, cloudy, a slight breeze……hmmmmm….a perfect day to eat a hearty breakfast, put on our hiking boots and climb to the top of  Cerro de São Miguel.  I suggested it and happily both Marc and Françoise felt up to it and there you have it!!!

We drove up the mountain road part way then parked and headed into the hills.  The trails are originally old mountain roads, entrenched over time by farmers and probably farm animals.  Now they are well used mountain biking paths.  On Saturday and Sunday it’s best to avoid them as they tend to be well used.   We noted today that several new, and in some cases, very large, “jumps” had been built.

Once at the top we stopped to enjoy the view, point out the various towns to Françoise.  From this point you see over half the Algarve shoreline and on a clear day, which it wasn’t today, over to Spain.   And of course, what goes up must come down.

We’d worked up a great appetite and given we were not that far from our old villa, we decided to go to Livrament and enjoy lunch at the little restaurant that had opened last year…..

Satisfied and quite full we headed over to the old villa to pay a visit to Henrique but sadly he wasn’t around.  Nontheless, we picked a bag of oranges, some lemons and a grapefruit. I left him a note pinned to his shed door with a bright orange clothes pin…….I hope it didn’t blow away.  Of course there are always stops on the way home…..

And that’s kind of how our day was passed.

    1. We thought of you as we climbed to the top today. It was so much fun and we, all three, felt great afterwards. The rabbit……..I would almost go so far as to say it was the best meal I’ve had here yet……bu then again… octopus was pretty darn good……and the bacalhau a pretty devine………and frango piri piri is right up there………LOL

      1. I have added it to my list of blogs that I follow, so I can see if there is a new entry. I don’t blog everyday, just about once a week or so when I participate in a thematic photo thing. But I consult the blog everyday to see who has posted. I am bored this winter!

  1. I’d say that’s a great day in Paradise…forever friends, fine weather for a hike, fabulous florals, and fantastic food! A frameable pic-ture by Marc!
